How to Remove Black Mold
Mold is everywhere. Its spores float in the air, being wafted
about until they finally land somewhere. Most of us think of mold as being something like that
grey-black fuzzy stuff that grows on cheese left too long in the refrigerator. No problem removing
black mold, just throw it out. But it is not always as simple as that.
In reality, mold is serious stuff. Breathing-in its spores can
make you sick, even kill you. The most common form of mold is stachybotrys chartarum, a kind of
black mold which also happens to be the most deadly. That's the type of mold that is commonly found
in damp places like your bathroom. It is important to make sure that your bathroom stays
mold-free.
Bathrooms, kitchens, basements, boats and recreational vehicles;
all are places that people frequent and where mold may grow. Wherever people go, they breathe.
Wherever there is mold, there are mold spores. If you or others in your family breathe in mold
spores in any sizeable quantity, you are opening the door to serious health problems and other
troubles.
Also, mold, when left alone, can do serious structural damage to
your home or boat. It feeds on almost any organic material and can completely destroy it over time.
Once-strong floors can can be eaten away until they suddenly cave in. Walls can give way and
crumble. Lots of that happens after a flood. It can happen without flooding if moisture is present
for a longish time.
You can remove mold, of course. Correct black mold removal
requires that whoever is doing the black mold removal knows what they are doing and takes proper
safety precautions. It also requires knowing how to kill mold to remove it permanently, so that it
doesn't come right back.
If you have a mold problem you basically have two choices. You can
contract a professional mold-abatement company to come out, inspect, clean up and repair any
damage. This works well but tends to cost a lot.
Tha other way is to do it yourself. That's easy and economical, if
you know what you are doing and don't mess it up from ignorance or inexperience. If you are going
to do mold removal yourself, take the time first to take a quick training course in the "how's" and
"how not's" of mold abatement and black mold removal.
That way you will know all about removing blak mold safely and
permanently. Taking the time to educate yourself on the subject first will pay huge dividends. It
will ensure that you can do the job without endangering yourself or your family, and do it very
well.
